2021 MICE Destination Marketing Contest Information Brochure


The 2021 MICE Destination Marketing Contest provides a unique opportunity for young adults worldwide to practice and share innovative ideas about the MICE industry. This contest also encourages students to integrate MICE marketing concepts with their respective campuses and local resources. It is hosted by Taiwan’s Bureau of Foreign Trade (BOFT) under the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA), and the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA). Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s competition will be held online. The theme for the contest this year is “International City Online Marketing and OMO (Online-Merge-Offline) Exhibition.” Students are encouraged to design an online exhibition to market their chosen cities by using their creativity, skills and knowledge of the MICE industry.


(1) Contest Theme: “International City Online Marketing and OMO (Online-Merge-Offline) Exhibition”

(2) Competition Date: Nov. 1 - Nov. 5, 2021

(3) Venue: iStaging (Virtual Exhibition Platform)

(4) Registration Deadline: September 6, 2021

(5) Registration Fee: 100 USD/team

  • After registration has been approved, TAITRA will notify each team by email and provide a payment form.

Eligible Participants

  1. The minimum number of team members is 4 per team. (Each team must consist of one lead teacher, one team leader, and at least two team members.)
       A. Multidisciplinary collaboration is encouraged.
       B. Transnational teams are not allowed.
       C. Each team member can only join one team.
  1. A maximum of 2 participating teams per country is permitted. If more than 2 teams register from one country, the following criteria will be used to select the approved teams:

Application Process

Participating teams must submit the attached registration form along with the following documents before the registration deadline of Sept. 6, 2021:

  1. List of team members: Name and contact info of one lead teacher, one team leader, and team members
  2. Brief introduction of your chosen city
  3. Past records of attendance at International MICE contests

Notice of Approval

The registration results will be announced on September 10, 2021. The approved teams should submit the registration fee before September 17, 2021 to complete the application process.

 

Contest Program

(1) Pre-Contest Online Training Class

  1. Virtual Booth Tutorial Video and Online Class. (The Online Class will be conducted in

September.)

  1. A practice material package, platform operating manual and tutorial video will be provided by TAITRA.

(2) Marketing and Proposal-Planning

Each team should submit a proposal according to the Request for Hosting a Virtual Exhibition and Marketing for your chosen city. The proposal should be no more than 10 A4 pages and written in English. The proposal should include the team’s Theme and content of City Marketing, Marketing Content and Strategy and Virtual Exhibition Planning.

(3) Virtual Exhibition and Booth Design

Each team should design a booth for city marketing and display their own marketing plan on the iStaging Virtual Exhibition platform. (The platform account will be provided by TAITRA.) The Virtual Booth should contain Virtual Room Planning and Virtual Booth Overall Design.

(4) English Tour Guide

Each team should display a 10-minute English Tour Guide on the iStaging Virtual Exhibition Platform in any form.

  • After registration has been approved, TAITRA will provide the Judging Standards.

Online Awards Ceremony (Live)

  • The Virtual Booth Exhibition is open to the public.
  • To increase booth interaction, each booth will have an online guided tour (circumstances permitting).
  • Winners will be informed and must record their acceptance speech videos before the Awards Ceremony. At the ceremony, TAITRA will play these videos because the international winning teams cannot join the event via online streaming.
  • The Awards Ceremony Live Video will be replayed for two days on the iStaging Platform.

 

Judges and Prizes:

TAITRA will invite 5 to 7 domestic and foreign experts to be judges.

Marketing and Proposal-Planning  Award

 

1st place team will be awarded 20,000 NTD and a trophy.

2nd place team will be awarded 15,000 NTD and a certificate.

3rd place team will be awarded 10,000 NTD and a certificate.

  • The first-place award will go to the team which has the most creative marketing plan and multimedia content in its virtual booth.
  • The first prize will go to the team with the highest final score which will be calculated by adding up all the judges’ individual scores. If two teams are tied for a position, both teams are awarded the ranking, without the next place winner. If two teams are tied for 3rd place, both teams are awarded the ranking, the prize money will be equally divided between two teams.

 

 

 

Virtual Exhibition and Booth Design Award

1st place team will be awarded 20,000 NTD and a trophy.

2nd place team will be awarded 15,000 NTD and a certificate.

3rd place team will be awarded 10,000 NTD and a certificate.

  • The first-place award will go to the team which has the best overall design concept and brand packaging for its Virtual Exhibition and Website.
  • The first prize will go to the team with the highest final score which will be calculated by adding up all the judges’ individual scores. If two teams are tied for a position, both teams are awarded the ranking, without the next place winner. If two teams are tied for 3rd place, both teams are awarded the ranking, the prize money will be equally divided between two teams.

 

 

English Tour Guide Award

1st place team will be awarded 20,000 NTD and a trophy.

2nd place team will be awarded 15,000 NTD and a certificate.

3rd place team will be awarded 10,000 NTD and a certificate.

  • The first-place award will go to the team whose live tours of the virtual booth content is the most fluent, the most complete, and the most compelling.
  • The first prize will go to the team with the highest final score which will be calculated by adding up all the judges’ individual scores. If two teams are tied for a position, both teams are awarded the ranking, without the next place winner. If two teams are tied for 3rd place, both teams are awarded the ranking, the prize money will be equally divided between two teams.

Subsidy:

Virtual Booth Subsidy: TAITRA will provide each team an iStaging Platform Account.

Notes:

  1. Participating teams must consent to the unrestricted use of all data, their copyrights of entries and other rights, which will be received by the organizer (and the designated third party). The organizer will not claim Moral Right (and designated third party) and is free to promote the data at the competition or in non-profit advertisements and promotions after the competition. 
  2. All participating teams MUST attend the exchange activities held by TAITRA.

 

  1. Award winners should abide by the tax regulations and TAITRA’s policy upon receiving their prizes. According to tax laws and regulations of the ROC, the tax on prize money won by non-residents of Taiwan is 20%.
  2. Participants must attest that they own the copyrights to all the images, music, or any form of media they use. Participating teams should acknowledge that all the work or outcomes during the contest must be legitimate. TAITRA is not responsible for any violations of the lawful rights of third parties.
  3. If any participating team is involved in a legal dispute, the organizer has the right to postpone the competition awards. Once a judgement has been reached, the organizer has the right to cancel the participating team’s qualifications and retrieve all subsidies provided to it if the team was awarded.

TAITRA retains the right to amend this form solely at its own discretion.
